WICHITA, Kansas, May 7, 2008 (AP) - Federal prosecutors told a judge today that the government is investigating more health care fraud allegations at a Kansas "pill mill."
The widened probe comes amid a flurry of recent court filings and subpoenas in the case against Dr. Stephen Schneider and his wife, Linda.
Prosecutors say they are investigating allegations "beyond the scope of the current indictment" by individuals other than the Schneiders. They did not name the individuals.
The government has obtained the medical records of more than 1,000 patients as part of its case.
The latest subpoena sought four additional medical files, including those of two medical assistants who also worked at the clinic.
The clinic is linked to 56 overdose deaths of patients.
