| My Story |
Hi. My name is Liz Webb and I am a chronic pain sufferer. I went on SSDI in 1994 and in 1996 I began writing and publishing an online advocacy magazine for chronic disease patients, it ran until 2004 after I was severely burned in a gas explosion, during which time my ISP sold it without notifying me – I was in a burn unit and didn’t get the email he said he sent – which would have gone to the burned down office and equipment. Anyway, I also was a national, and very outspoken speaker to both patients and professionals. Since that loss I have been ’fired’ by just about every doctor I’ve had due the need for ’too much pain medicine’. I have MS, HCV, lupus, RA and degenerative disk disease. When I was properly medicated I was on 100mgs of Oramorph twice a day and two fentanyl suckers a day. I lived a normal life. After the fire, divorce of 20 years, loss of my ability to leave my home much all my doctors think I am a drug seeker. I have been hospitalized in psychiatric units 5 times since Jan 2009 from undertreatment for pain, and yet, the last place, St. Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan I was forced to leave AMA (which I refused to sign) because my Psychiatrist, Dr. Maymard, felt that my only problem was too much reliance on drugs and decided his intention was to stop my vicoden, ultram, and fentanyl patch – all I was on – and then send me home! I said ’Hell No You’re Not’! When I got home he had already called my home doc to tell him ’all she wants is drugs’. I had to accept another reduction of vicoden to 2 a day and 1 ultram 4 times a day, and no more patches. Now I’m bedridden again with no where to turn. I’ve lost all my contacts and have no idea what to do.
