Hmmm , ok: Boring 2 me by now…and in a rush…b4 I start it would be nice to have dialogs with some folks in this area – you do feel alone & ostracized. OK here goes:In 1972, I had the tip of my hip broken off; in 1976, a pick-up hit me bike riding my bike…I flew about 30 feet – and the x-rays showed that the repaired tip had been shattered into 17 peices (+/- they said…as some were very small and had been sunk into the remaining bone and I wore a 3/4 body cast for two months – surgery was not “advisable” as there was hope of walking if the body fused with “ossification” or “hetero-topic” something or other, ie: the body can repair things very well on it’s own if we help. I began a life of extreme athleticism, until I got hit head-on by a tractor-trailer on Dec 24, 1980…the left femur compound fractured thru the door panel of the car & I spent 4 months in the hospital. They were preparing to cut-off my leg when a local bone doc called who was familiar with my hip…and told them to put a rod in it…that the excessive repairs would allow it to heal. When he removed the rod a year later and cleaned things up a bit, there were 9 pieces of bone repairing…and he predicted the pain problems I would have the next few decades, and he was spot on. In about 5 years walking became very painful, and I solved it with excessive drinking; when I told my doc, he put me on 2 7.5 perks a day, and wow, not too much pain & my limping lessened! As time went on my PCP prescribed me up to 10mg + 10extra for episodes..the hip is chronic with xtra pain times. In 2000 I had to switch to pain management because the DEA had stepped in…5x more $ and a lot of BS in my opinion. They arrived at 15mg oxycodone after trying 7 medications; the best working was the 50mg morphine patches, but in the summer they fell off as I ran with 84lbs of gear after politicians & crooks as an audio sound tech with boom mike. I decided in 2002 to get the hip operated, went to 3 countries & spent about $48, 000 to find out the the “conservative” treatments were correct..it was too risky – 30-40% paralysis. It is an odd injury. Then one day everything changed…and led to a long period of disbelief: The pain DR. after a regular appointment said they were drug testing, no problemo. Oh ” this might take awhile as we are testing all of our patients today”…OK: I’ll do it in another room, I had gotten a ride as my car was in the shop. NO! You must take it in THAT bathroom. I am like: Lady, I am drug tested almost monthly every time I get hired freelance for White House duty (My specialty). She gave me a look I’ll never forget, and walked away..so I asked the receptionist if I could go with my ride, get my car & return, and her response was, and I quote: ” it is up to you…”. So I did that and got back at 4:40…having no idea that they made so much money that they closed at 4:30 on Fridays. I returned Monday at 9am to take the test, and was handed a pile of papers and told I was no longer a patient of theirs. The papers were all about drug treatment centers…VERY expensive centers. I was shocked…walked right back in and asked to speak with my regular doctor with whom I had a very friendly relationship…they refused and when I turned around there were two security guards. In shock I left, I mean I worked in the White House, had sterling insurance & plenty of money – I will just get another pain management doctor. Right. When I called all 8 listed in our area, the second I told them my name, they stated that their office did not prescribe Opiates. Straight lies, and I repeated these calls with a set of friends the next day: a nurse, a doctor and a person whom had been treated by two of the centers and was taking far more than I could imagine (She is dead now…had a few horrific conditions). They were all shocked…and were hung up on when they asked to speak with them…it was like a Kafka movie. Since I was being treated in Vietnam & Thailand by British docs, I temporarily solved my dilemma by flying to Saigon & bringing back 2 years of medications…for a grand total of $248 VS the $8, 400 / year under the pain mgt system we use. Now…this night mare story blooms into four, but I have to run (I did plan and try to kill myself along the way…as I cannot sleep or walk without something to kill the pain, and the crisis center heard about it and presently I am getting 1/3 medication from my doctor…who is scared yet is human. Ok, b4 I go, I want to say “let’s talk”, as I am writing..ghost writing, whatever a paper which may help you folks – the DEA confusions are evidently all about bad apples & bad political appointees…as of a year ago, and I want to know the truths because this paper will get good exposure. I live outside DC…and use whitehousetv at yahooto begin a dialog. |
